Hi everyone!
Remember how I mentioned that I had a photography show in Richmond during the month of April? And how I promised that I would be putting the photos up on the blog? NOW is the time!! I am pleased to share the photos that were featured at Gallery EDIT, a gallery run by Hillside Missions that works to show God and the Gospel through art and bring others into conversation. I had a lot of fun meeting people at the show, spending time with the staff, and talking the experiences my photos come from!
First, here are some photos from the opening, part of RVA's First Fridays event! I took the photos before the event and in down-times, but probably 100-200 people came through, and they were very encouraging!!
My artist statement:
I am blessed to have a camera and an eye – an eye that constantly seeks evidence of the Lord in our world. He works through things and people surrounding us every day, and we can see that work if we simply stop to look. I love to share unique details and perspectives in my work, in an effort to capture the beauty and share it with others. Life whizzes by far too quickly to notice everything, but it slows down just enough when there is a camera in hand.
Art allows the incredible ability to express oneself freely. As a Christian, I believe that anything I can do to express the love and good works of the Lord is worth doing. Photography combines my artistic passions with my call and my desire to share His love. I find the beauty of the world to be visions of God in our midst, and I pray that God will use my work to show His truth to many.
His truth is communicated through artistic messages of justice, hope, redemption, and restoration in beautiful ways. Art may be revealing, compelling, perplexing, or calming. It may put a face to names and stories from far, far away. It may make you stop in your tracks; it may cause you to open your eyes and strive to see more of the world. I hope my photography reveals some of God’s beautiful creativity and simplicity in new ways and encourages you to pause, look, and listen.
